Message Board Moderation Guidelines:

We’ve created The Lowdown message board as a safe place for young Kiwis to talk about depression. Sharing your feelings and experiences with other people on the message board is a very positive step to take but it’s important you understand a few guidelines in order to keep our site a safe place that everyone can trust:

The Lowdown team don’t take part in the conversations on the message board but we do moderate it to protect everyone’s safety. We moderate posts on weekdays from 9am to 5pm, so it might take us a while to get to your post.

If we see a post from anyone we think needs help we’ll indicate they should talk to someone. In extreme cases, if we’re worried someone is about to harm themselves we’ll contact external agencies to make sure they are kept safe.

If you need help or have questions about anything you read on the message board you should txt or email The Lowdown team (we respond to txts and emails from midday to midnight 7 days a week) or contact any of the other services listed on the site. If you need help urgently please contact 111.

Here’s a few guidelines to keep the message board a positive place:

Don’t make damaging or disrespectful remarks about other users, including discriminating against their sexual orientation, gender, race, colour, religious beliefs, national origin or disability.

If you are discussing self-harm or thoughts of suicide please don’t go into graphic detail. Better still, contact The Lowdown team to talk about what you’re experiencing.

To protect your safety we won’t approve any posts that include your contact details.

Keep the language clean please. Abusive comments won’t be published.
