Hi I'm 17 and currently attend high school. I sit at school everyday finding it extremely hard to concentrate or even complete any work assigned to do at home. I find it hard to even go to school alot of the time and always have days off. I have huge anxiety issuses sometimes i find it hard to sleep many nights because i am worrying so much about my life and future, sometimes i will drink so i can get to sleep easier. Constantly lack energy or motivation in life though my parents just think i am lazy. I get anxious about lots of things and this causes me to never try new things or really try make new friends. Please help

Hi Shawn,
Anxiety can be a really difficult one, and a disabling disorder - I know what you mean about feeling uncomfortable meeting people or trying new things. It's easy to forget how simple life was before anxiety hits, but it can be relatively simple again. Don't give up :)
If your anxiety is this severe, it sounds like you could really benefit from medication. Please talk to your GP about it, as they should be able to help. Once you talk to your GP, it would be a good idea to tell your parents that you suffer from severe anxiety and fill them in on your symptoms. Stress that it's not something you have control over, but hopefully the right medications will be helpful. It might also be useful to consider counseling, as counselors are often skilled in helping you to develop tools to better deal with and confront anxiety when it does arise.

Hey! I went through a similar thing when i was sitting sixth form at school and ended up being kicked out for attendance and attitude :/ a really good place to start is to see your GP, vocalising things can really help take a weight off. I have suffered depression and anxiety since I was about 8 and I am now 18... That is 10 years of darkness, sometimes its really hard but i do have good days, you need to find a light at the end of the tunnel even if its just the littlest shimmer and follow it, dont loose sight honey. Anxiety is like a shark in the ocean of life and it nips at your ankles somedays and other days wrestles you to the sea floor to devour you and have you bleed out... I find to keep those sharks away I stay in a life boat, by that i mean find yourself a safe place whether it be in your mind or a physical place and whenever you feel it coming on run to your safe place and watch the sharks from saftey. I know exactly how you feel about being un motivated, again talking to your GP and possibly seeking some therapy/ conselling? There is absolutely no shame in seeing a mental health professional, I have seen over 20 and am better off for it. Stay strong and remember there is ALWAYS people who care and who you can talk to :)

I agree with Lollychop's advice. And I think that's a useful metaphor :)
